One hundred and five species of thalassinidean, anomuran and brachyuran decapod crustaceans are recorded from a 1988 collecting expedition to the Kimberley region of northwestern Australia. An additional 70 species are recorded from the literature. One new species of pagurid hermit crab and a new species of xanthid crab are described.

A phylogenetic analysis was conducted including representatives from all recognized extant and extinct families of the Xanthoidea sensu lato, resulting in one new family, Hypothalassiidae. Four xanthoid families are elevated to superfamily status, resulting in Carpilioidea, Pilumnoidoidea, Eriphioidea, Progeryonoidea, and Goneplacoidea, and numerous subfamilies are elevated to family status. A new family, Martinocarcinidae, must accommodate the monotypic genus Martinocarcinus Böhm, 1922. The genus displays a unique combination of dorsal, sternal and abdominal characters justifying placement in a new family. The Martinocarcinidae joins several other now extinct Eocene families that flourished at that time, supporting the long-held view that the Eocene was a time of radiation within the Brachyura.

Kingsleya castrensis sp. nov., a pseudothelphusid crab is described and illustrated from the Xingu River, state of Pará, southern Amazon region, Brazil. The new species is characterized by the male first gonopod bearing a large, well-developed apical plate, with a broadly rounded, thick distal lobe. New records of Kingsleya junki Magalhães, 2003 extend the distribution of this species eastward to the Tocantins River basin, in the state of Pará, Brazil.

Several cases are reported of associated occurrence of the crab Cyclocoeloma tuberculata Miers, 1880 (Majidae) and species of Discosomatidae (Anthozoa: Corallimorpharia) carried on the crab's carapace, and colonies of Xeniidae (Alcyonacea) carried on the ambulatory legs. A marine biological invasion is a natural process accelerated by human activities, and the crab Charybdis hellerii is an example of a globally widespread invasive species. This study evaluated color variation in C. hellerii and its relationship to the sex, size and sexual maturity of these crabs, and compared the efficiency of a freeware digital image-editing program with a commercially available program. A new genus, Arachnothelphusa gen. nov., is established for five species of Bornean freshwater crabs (Gecarcinucidae) previously placed in Thelphusula Bott, 1969. One species from Sabah, A. terrapes, is here described as new. The genus is characterised by its long ambulatory legs, shape of the carapace and structure of the male pleopods.

O objetivo do presente estudo é a elaboração de uma chave de identificação ilustrada das espécies de Brachyura que ocorrem no estuário da Lagoa dos Patos e sua região costeira adjacente. A chave abrange espécies as quais foram coletadas mensalmente, usando uma rede de plâncton (165 cm de comprimento, 60 cm de boca e 330 µm de malha). As amostragens foram realizadas na superfície e fundo. Os especimens foram identifcados mediante comparação com larvas cultivadas em laboratório e com descrições já existentes. A chave utiliza caracteres que não sofrem grandes transformações ao longo do desenvolvimento, e a utilização de figuras para ilustrar a chave permite a não especialistas facilmente identificar as espécies.

Some individuals of the species Arenaeus cribrarius (Lamarck, 1818) bear a characteristic pink abdomen, which is notably different from the usual white coloration. The incidence of this chromatic alteration was determined for a single population and its relation with other individual variables were examined. O objetivo do presente estudo foi caracterizar a composição e a abundância dos caranguejos no infralitoral não-consolidado de duas regiões (Ubatuba e Caraguatatuba) do litoral norte paulista, Brasil. Em cada região foram realizadas coletas mensais em sete profundidades, durante o período de dois anos (Julho/ 2001 a Junho/ 2003), utilizando-se um barco de pesca equipado com duas redes do tipo "double-rig". Se determinó la composición y estructura del ensamblaje de crustáceos Brachyura de la plataforma continental de La Guajira y su variación con respecto al gradiente de profundidad y a las características del sedimento. Se realizaron 44 arrastres de fondo en las isóbatas de 10 y 50 m de profundidad, por medio de una red demersal tipo semiglobo, en los meses de marzo y abril de 2005. Utilizando o método de deslocamento modal para a identificação das idades, estimou-se o crescimento do siri-azul Callinectes sapidus Rathbun, 1896 em duas áreas de pesca no estuário da Lagoa dos Patos. Os indivíduos foram coletados entre fevereiro de 2005 e março de 2006 no Saco da Mangueira e Saco do Arraial por meio de arrasto de rede de portas da pesca artesanal. The growth of the crab Goniospis cruentata (Latreille. 1803), was studied in the laboratory, through of the molt increment and intermolt period. A total of 86 crabs (48 males and 38 females) were collected in the ltacuruçá's Mangrove in Mangaratiba's county. Rio de Janeiro. The crabs were maintened in the laboratory in four 1000 l tanks, with continuous water circulation during fifteen months. They were fed each two days with pieces of fish and fruits. Para evaluar la composición, abundancia y distribución de los crustáceos decápodos en la cuenca del río Sinú, departamento de Córdoba (Colombia), se estudiaron ocho localidades: cuatro en el río Sinú y cuatro en el complejo cenagoso del bajo Sinú. Para ello, se realizaron seis muestreos entre abril de 2005 y mayo de 2006. En total se registraron 458 crustáceos decápodos distribuidos en tres familias, seis géneros y ocho especies.
